Executive Director Suzanne Becker to Retire
Feed My People's Executive Director, Suzanne Becker, will be retiring. She will officially step down...
In two weeks, every one of us eats an average of 40 meals. For families who are struggling to make ends meet, the worry of trying to provide those meals for everyone in their household is overwhelming. Now, these same families are faced with an increase in inflation not seen in our country in 40 years. However, 40 more meals can be the difference between worry and hope for the guests that Feed My People (FMP) and its partners serve.
FMP is celebrating its 40 year anniversary in 2022, and just like we have been doing since 1982, we are working to ensure our guests have the food they need to live a happy and healthy life during these trying times. The goal of our 40 More campaign is simple. Raise $40,000 in the next 40 days in honor of our anniversary. Meeting this goal will ensure we can purchase the food needed for not only our own programs but also deliver food to our partners who are also seeing an increase in demand. Give today.
Like our guests, we at FMP are also feeling the effects of record inflation and economic uncertainty. Increasing food, fuel, and utility expenses are making it challenging for us to meet the rising demand that we and our partners are seeing.
At a recent Pop-Up distribution in Eau Claire FMP served 167 families (506 individuals), and of those families, 48 had never attended a Pop-Up pantry before. That Pop-Up had been seeing an average of 80-100 families prior to this distribution. Volunteers and staff at this Pop-Up heard over and over how hard things are right now and how thankful they were for the extra food. Below is a sample of some of the stories we heard:
"Inflation makes it hard to be able to provide meals for my family. I have to choose between groceries and bills."
"I'm a single mother of 2 kids. Inflation has hit me hard. It's very difficult to get daily needs met for the kids."
"I have maintained the same income, but I am unable to pay my basic bills. My propane has become almost out of budget and food has become much more of a luxury."
"I have 3 kids and we have always been able to do okay by watching expenses. I can't do that anymore. I need help."
"I don't know how we're going to get through this."
"We need to make harder decisions on what bill to pay now or push off until next time. And fewer groceries in the cart."
Would you consider a donation of $40 to support our 40 More campaign? Any donation amount makes an incredible difference. Your donation today will help ensure FMP is able to continue to provide an average of 15,000 meals per day for hungry people in the communities we serve.
